Hickory Hollow and the houses around it

Antioch was farmland until sewer lines reached it in the 1970s and opened it to building. Hickory Hollow Mall opened in 1978; its site is now The Commons at the Crossings. Antioch was never incorporated and is part of Metro Nashville-Davidson County, but with 97,372 residents in 2020 it had more people than Franklin.

Its housing is spread over fifty years. For the 37013 ZIP area, Census estimates put 14% of homes in the 1970s, 20% in the 1980s, 15% in the 1990s, 23% in the 2000s and 15% in the 2010s.

So the garage doors on one Antioch street can be twenty or thirty years apart in age. The newer ones mostly need springs and opener settings. The older ones are where rusted bottom sections, cracked panels and decades-old openers show up, and where a new door starts to make more sense than another repair.

What opener should replace an old one?

That depends on the door and the garage. The heavier the door, the more horsepower the opener needs, and it should be paired with springs sized to that weight, or the motor wears out early. If something on the ceiling is in the way, like a beam, a light or storage racks, and there’s room beside the door, a jackshaft opener mounts on the wall next to the door instead of hanging from a rail.

A fifth of Antioch’s homes are from the 1980s, and an opener from that decade, if it’s still running, is close to forty years old. We put up LiftMaster openers, MyQ Wi-Fi models included, pair the remotes and the car’s buttons before we leave, and we service Genie and other brands. The openers page goes deeper.

How far is Antioch from College Grove?

About 23 miles, roughly 38 minutes without traffic, by mapping estimate. That covers the area from the Ford Ice Center and The Commons at the Crossings out to the Percy Priest Lake side of Antioch.

If your door has slipped off its track or a spring has snapped, phone (615) 810-6415 for a realistic arrival time. Until we get there, leave the door alone. A door off its track is still under spring tension and can fall or twist further if the opener runs again. Unplug the opener if you can reach the cord safely. Our cable repair page explains why.

Antioch garage door questions

Does Kingdom Doors come to Antioch even though it’s part of Nashville?

Yes. Being inside Metro Nashville makes no difference to us; Antioch is about 23 miles and 38 minutes from our College Grove base without traffic. We work there the same as in Williamson County, on springs, cables, openers and new doors.

What garage door opener fits a garage with an obstructed ceiling in Antioch?

A jackshaft opener. It mounts on the wall beside the door and turns the torsion bar directly, so it needs no rail across the ceiling. It suits Antioch garages with beams, lights or storage racks overhead, as long as there’s room at the side. We install LiftMaster jackshaft models with MyQ Wi-Fi control.

How much has Antioch grown since the 1970s?

A great deal. Sewer extensions in the 1970s opened Antioch’s farmland to building, and by 2020 it had 97,372 residents, more than Franklin. Census estimates for ZIP 37013 put 14% of homes in the 1970s, 20% in the 1980s, 15% in the 1990s, 23% in the 2000s and 15% in the 2010s.

Is it safe to open an Antioch garage door that’s come off its track?

No. Leave it where it is, keep people and cars clear, and don’t run the opener. A door off its track is still under spring tension and can drop or twist further. The usual cause is a thrown cable or a bumped track, and putting the cable back on its drum and setting the door level is a standard repair.
